‘On The Spotlight’, we talk to the Kzn, South Africa based ‘Antony Crox’ who is a multi-talented House Music Producer and Deejay. Fresh with a single out titled ‘Girl’ and an upcoming Ep which titled ‘SmokeFilled’, this is what ‘Antony Crox’ had to say about his journey through music.
Sho Mag: First and foremost, let us thank you for taking some time out of your busy schedule for this ‘one on one’. There are a few of our readers who might be wondering who is ‘Antony Crox is. To help those who might be wondering, who is Antony Crox and where is he from?
Antony Crox: Well ‘Antony Crox’ is a young man who is from KZN, South Africa. My real name is Sbo Ngwenya and I’m what you would call a ‘Music Entrepreneur’. This includes recording artists directing & managing, music production, deejaying and song writing.
Sho Mag: How did it all start for ‘Antony Crox’? By that I mean how did you get into the music industry?
Antony Crox: It was back in 2010 when I started teaching myself how to produce house music. At that time I was already exposed to a few musical instruments, so I took it one step further by learning studio production and up until this day I’m still going strong.
Sho Mag: ‘Antony Crox’, in the ‘Mzansi House Music Scene’ what would you say is your involvement?
Antony Crox: I’m nothing much, but all I can say is that I have built strong working relationships with several artists and music labels. Over the years I’ve worked with artists such as ‘T-Drum, Fatso, KingTouch, The Aquablendz and so on’. I have also worked with labels such as ‘Candid Beings Records, Native Deep Records Afrothentic Records and so on.’ For that I’m Grateful some needed experience and exposure.
Sho Mag: There are a couple of music genres out there, for you why did you go for ‘House Music’?
Antony Crox: One thing I knew is that I was already A ‘House Music Head’ even before I knew how to produce my own House Music Beats. So I was inspired by the likes Of ‘Rocco, Ralf Gum, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Sean McCabe’. I have always dreamt that my music will be played amongst all these legends and I guess it ‘is bound to happen one day’.
Sho Mag: Currently you have a single out titled ‘Girl (Main Dream), can you tell us a bit about that single and what kind of a sound you had in mind when you producing that track?
Antony Crox: The single is out on all ‘Online Music Stores’ guys. It is a ‘subtle laid back Afro House Tune’. This is a love-song I wrote which is about a young man who is madly in love with his girl and he wishes nothing but the best for them and their future together.
Sho Mag: Who did you work with on the track and why?
Antony Crox: I wanted a sweet and subtle approach to the track. ‘Profound Roar’s Elements & Motheo’s Sweet Voice’ came out perfect. Profound Roar is a dou which is made by ‘Nocturnal & Denziro’ from Kzn, South Africa and ‘Motheo’ is a talented vocalist who is from Gauteng, South Africa as well.
Sho Mag: Any future projects lined up within your label ‘Khoisan Music’ or maybe from you as a musician?
Antony Crox: Yes there are plenty and we are signing a couple of ‘Fresh Artists’ under our label. Personally, I am currently working with a lot of artists both music producers and vocalists who are based national and internationally based. Also look out for my upcoming Ep which is titled ‘SmokeFilled’ due out later this year.
Sho Mag: As we are about to close off the year, what would you say was your highlight and low moment of the year thus far?
Antony Crox: My lows would include delays and having to put out unsuccessful projects which on its own is part of the music industry. My highlights would include having my music played on both national and international radio station and having one of tracks played live on ‘Metro Fm’ was a big thing for me and I am thankful for that.
Sho Mag: What advice would you give to an ‘up and coming producer’ out there trying to make a mark in this music industry?
Antony Crox: All I can say is ‘stay humble and keep it original. Pray and let your passion drive you. Patience is key in this industry’.
Sho Mag: Final word to your fans as we approach the ‘festive season’?
Antony Crox: This festive season pump my single up!!! Keep it on full volume while you keep safe. Enjoy responsibly, don’t drink and drive and let’s enjoy life y’all. ‘Please support local music.’
