Da Capo 'On The SpotLight'

If ever there was one individual who is at the ‘peak of his game’ and who at the moment is making all the ‘right buzz’, then ‘Da Capo’ would be that individual. From humble beginnings through the streets of ‘Seshego’ which is a small township near ‘Polokwane, South Africa, ‘Da Capo’ has truly come a long way. With a recent ‘chart topping’ album release titled ‘Indigo Child’ under ‘Blackcoffee’s Soulistic Music, ‘Da Capo’ is surely among ‘the elite league of house musicians’. This week on ‘The SpotLight’ we have ‘Da Capo’ and we talk just about everything, from music to anything in-between. ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’, do enjoy…

Sho Mag: Let us take this time and thank you for hitting us up with a ‘one on one’. Can we start by asking who ‘Da Capo’ is and where is he from? Just for the benefit of those who might not know who he is.

Da Capo: Da Capo is a versatile house music producer/deejay who is also known as ‘Aquatone’ but my real name is ‘Nicodemus’. I’m 27 years of age born and raised in ‘Seshego, Zone 3, Limpopo’ and I am signed under Soulistic Music.

Sho Mag: How did it all start for ‘Da Capo’, please take us back on how you got to be part of the music industry. Was it something you always wanted?

Da Capo: To make music was always the goal. I started out as a rapper but later grew to realise my ability to make beats. In high school I had friends who were avid house music fans, they played a huge role in introducing me to what is now my career. All thanks to social media I got in touch with ‘Nick Holder’ on Facebook who is someone I looked up to and ‘three days later I was signed to his label DNH’ and released my music.

Sho Mag: Music industry is sometimes known as being ‘ruthless’. What has been your ‘ultimate low’ within this industry and how did you get over that?

Da Capo: I have a hard time working with people who ‘don’t share my vision and who don’t strive for quality in making music’, in a way that frustrated me and almost killed my ambition. Luckily I was approached by Soulistic Music and all my inspiration was brought back.

Sho Mag: Every artist would like to have his/her particular ‘signature sound’. How would you describe ‘Da Capo’ signature sound and what influences that sound?

Da Capo: I don’t think my sound is easily recognizable and the reason being is that I always strive to be versatile.

Sho Mag: On being signed under ‘Soulistic Music’, would you say that was ‘biggest musical break’ so far and if so why?

Da Capo: Definitely, without a doubt. ‘I respect the work ethic there’ and as an artist I wasn’t so clued up about the business side to music, but since signing to Soulistic Music I know a thing or two about the industry.

Sho Mag: Congratulations on dropping one of ‘the hottest house music album last year’. For us here at ShoMag, ‘Indigo Child Is A Definite Must Have’. First of all how did it feel after dropping such a ‘massive offering’ and how has the response been from the public?

Da Capo: Thank you so much, to be honest I was sceptical about the release but the response from people has boosted my confidence. ‘The response has been amazing’!!!

Sho Mag: How would you describe the album ‘Indigo Child’ and who did you work with on that album?

Da Capo: This album honestly ‘came from my heart and I made it for people’. I featured my favourite vocalists whom I have a good working relationship with ‘Berita, Wanda Baloyi, Jackie Queens, GoodLuck, Renee Thompson, Soulsta, Miss Dippy, Tshepo King & Darian Crouse’.

Sho Mag: What is instore for us this year from ‘Da Capo’, are there any musical projects you are currently working on for 2018?

Da Capo: I am currently working on ‘Indigo Child Part 2’, it will be a continuation of Part 1 and is due for a release soon.

Sho Mag: Last words from ‘Da Capo’ and is there any message from you to your fans out there?

Da Capo: Thank you so much for being part of this journey. ‘Thank you for the love & support’!
