They came in from far and wide. With only one intention in mind and that being, to be ‘Mzansi’s Master Of Spin’. One by one they hit the dust. And one when the dust cleared, only one was crowned as the ‘Ultimate Master Of Spin’. Mzansi’s Master Of Spin Season 4 is….. ‘Dj Nastor!!!’ Yes he came, he saw and when the dust settled down Dj Nastor was crowned as season 4 ‘Mzansi’s Ultimate Master Of Spin’. We took some out and placed Dj Nastor on our ‘Spot Light’ so as to bring you this talented artist’s ‘inside scoop’. And this is how it went down…
Sho!Mag: Dj Nastor is a name we have gotten used to through the South African Deejay Competition ‘Masters Of Spin’, we would like to know what is Dj Nastor’s birthname is and where is he from?
Dj Nastor: Thanks man for this opportunity. My birth name is Nhlakanipho Ntobeko Dlamini and I am from Ladysmith in a small township called Ezakheni (D section).
Sho!Mag: Let us rewind it back just for a minute before we heard straight to the Masters Of Spin crowning moment, how did you get into the music industry and what got you drawn to this industry?
Dj Nastor: For me the love for music started way back. And as far as I can recall, it all started in high school and I taught myself to produce with the use of a basic Fl Studio and Reason programs and that was back in 2008. I used to listen to a lot of Dj Mbuso’s house music compilations back then and I guess that is how I fell in love with house music.
Sho!Mag: Would you say that you were one of those ‘musical kids’ or you knew even before as a kid that you wanted to play some role in music?
Dj Nastor: I can only say I was fascinated by computers and music in general. Combine that with one music production software and I was blown away. That is where it all started for me.
Sho!Mag: Out of the Music Genres out there, why chose House Music?
Dj Nastor: For me, I take House music is a universal language. With just one five minute track, I can tell so many stories through it.
Dj Nastor: As an upcoming artist, I am constantly on the lookout for the perfect options out there so as to push my brand to new heights. I have seen from past winners, how 1s and 2s Master’s Of Spin has helped them when it comes to their growth within the music industry. For me it was the perfect opportunity.
Sho!Mag: Must have been one challenging journey for you being part of the 4th Season of the Masters Of Spin Competition as it was obvious to some of us who watched the show weekly. What would you say was the most challenging part of that competition as you were taken through your paces?
Dj Nastor: The dancing part! That was the most challenging part for me hey. During the performances, the judges required us to dance so as to spice up our performance and all I know is, dancing is just something I cannot do. That was a huge challenge for me.
Dj Nastor: Winning the 2017 Masters Of Spin competition made me to be fully aware that my journey has just begun. My only plan is to make the most of this opportunity given to me.
Dj Nastor: To be honest, I have never felt so much happiness and joy in my life. For a second right there, I actually even thought I was dreaming.
Sho!Mag: Now that the dust has settled down and you have been crowned as the winner of Season 4. Any music projects you are currently working on and who are you working with in those projects?
Dj Nastor: I have just released a single called ‘Time travel’, which is ‘Gqom Music’ that has some ‘Electro House Element’ within it. With this track, I am trying to introduce a new sound to the people and also to create a ‘new house music genre’. I also plan to spend a lot of my time in studio and yes I am open to collaborating with other musicians too.
Sho!Mag: Final words to your fans man and ya!!! What would you say to some Deejay / Producer who would like to enter Season 5 and be just like you? What would you say to them?
Dj Nastor: To my fans, I would like to say “Thank you so much for voting for me and I promise to make even better music now and keep the world dancing”. I am looking forward to seeing Season 5 of 1s and 2s because there is so much talent out there. Guys just need to believe in their talent and just do their best.
