It is without any doubt that ‘Hyenah’ has got his foot firmly planted within the ‘Afro House Music Scene’. One can say he is definitely the most consistent House Music Producer for the past two years according to us. Not only that but it is also visible that ‘Hyenah’ is without a doubt the hardest working House Music Producer as well and his recent releases prove that without a shadow of a doubt.
It was only last month when we reviewed his banging single ‘Usuthu’ where features the talented ‘B’utiza’ and we were bowled over by that offering from his ‘Usuthu EP’. A month later he follows up with another ‘scorching hot offering’ titled ‘The Ritual’. Inbetween those two ‘Ep’s’, Hyenah also found some time to hit our shores with his ‘Hyenah In Africa Tour’. This tour covered ‘Hang Out Joints’ such as ‘Kefu,s Place in Khayelitsha Cape Town’, Artisan Lounge in kwaMashu Durban, And Club in Johannesburg, the famous House 22 in Pretoria’ and some InStore Promos as well to top that off. We say the past two years ‘Hyenah’ has been hard at work and it proves as he became ‘Afro House artist of the year on Traxsource’. Also within the same year ‘Hyenah’ had the most charted track of the year on Resident Advisor and two tracks on Beatport’s annual Deep House Top 10. Not only that ‘Hyenah’ is running the only regular club night for ‘African House Music’ which he called ‘RISE’ and happens every other month at Watergate in Berlin, Europe. He has released tracks and remixes on labels such as ‘Freerange, Objektivity, AEON, Systematic, Drumpoet Community, Pokerflat, Akbal Music, Tribe Records and Toy Tonics’ and has remixes for artists such as ‘Jimpster, Frankey & Sandrino, Denis Horvat, youANDme, Miguel Puente and the Afro Warriors’.
His recent offering with ‘Rise Music’ and is titled ‘The Ritual EP’ and it features two of the most ‘amazing Afro House Joints’ and they definitely caught us off guard. The title single is called ‘The Ritual’ and in true ‘Hyenah fashion’, the track has with it the most ‘gripping progression’ with some ‘native chants’ captivating the background perfectly. ‘This one is for keeps’!!!. The second track is titled ‘You Made Me Who I Am’, from start you can feel that there is ‘something brewing’ and the aim was simple ‘fill up the dancefloor’. ‘Hyenah’ perfectly hits the nail on the head with precision on ‘You Made Me Who I Am’ and only he can pull that off. As you can tell, ‘we loving The Ritual EP’ not because it is an ‘Afro House Music Offering’, but it is a ‘Proper Afro House Music Offering’. In his own words ‘’That’s why I do what I do. I want you to come together. I want us to RISE. That’s my mission. It is not about my face. It is about us’’. We agree, definitely it is about us.
