On The Spot Light 'Lady Sakhe'

Lady Sakhe is a deejay that has been making us dance for the past 13 years or so. Her speciality, yep!!! you guessed right Deep & Soulful House Music. Signed under Katsaitis Music which is a label owned By the legendary DJ Christos. Dj Christos saw potential in the young deejay back in 2013 and since then Lady Sakhe has made appearances on major radio stations and also plays on the epic Metro FM called Urban Beats. Her mixes feature on the segment called The Local Mix and The Vocal Mix.  Lady Sakhe is the talk of the town with her deep house sounds that get regulars at parties, all over Mzansi. Spring is in the air, so let us welcome it and get to hear what Lady Sakhe had to say about her journey Deep into House Music. Welcome to it…

Sho!Mag: Thank you for taking some time out for us. Can we start by asking who is Lady Sakhe and where is she from?

Lady Sakhe: I am a female deejay that plays Soulful house music. My career in music started roughly about 14 years ago. Soweto, that is where I was born.

Sho!Mag: For the benefit of those who are not familiar with Lady Sakhe. Can you please tell us what is it that you do in the Music Industry? Are you a music producer or a vocalist or a deejay or do you consider yourself as an all-rounder?

Lady Sakhe: I would sum all that up by saying, ‘Lady Sakhe is a deejay and an events strategist’.

Sho!Mag: You must have graced so many stages and performed in a lot of venues and events through your musical journey, which one would you say stood out for you and why is it so?

Lady Sakhe: I would say the ‘Mother Of All Parties’ at the ‘South African Music Conference’, this is mainly because I played back to back with my mentor and my soul sister ‘Dj Buhle’. This also brought so much emotions because I was playing with individuals that are now family. Having to play at a gig at 3AM and all that was playing before we got on was commercial music and to see how the crowd loved and appreciated what we did was incredible.

Sho!Mag: What would you say is the main reason you decided to be part of the Music Industry?

Lady Sakhe: I really don’t have a clear answer, but I it just came naturally for me as ‘I love music’. I was organising parties at high school and then the interest to become a deejay started at that time I didn’t evenknow where it would take me.

Sho!Mag: Out of the Music Genres out there, why choose House Music?

Lady Sakhe: Honestly it made sense to my heart and the feeling I would get would get when I listened to it. That’s how I got to specialise in soulful house music.

Sho!Mag: When it comes to influences, what would you say is your biggest influence and where do you draw your strength from when you need to recharge?

Influences can be anyone that pushes to better themselves whether it is in my field or not. I really depend on family to recharge, they’ve been there since the beginning and the funny thing is to them i’m not a Dj, Im still the humble girl they raised. They give me strength to keep doing what I do. ‘My mother tells me everyday to never give up’.

Sho!Mag: House Music Deejay Scene is a pretty much ‘male dominated’ industry, do you find any challenges with being a ‘lady’ making major moves in this ‘male dominated’ industry? And how do you overcome those challenges?

Lady Sakhe: I really don’t believe there is a difference between male and female struggle within the music industry, everyone struggles in a different ways and when this type of question arises it makes me laugh because there are male dj’s I started with or before me and they also struggle. All this is dependant on how far you wanna go. ‘We as individuals need to push ourselves’. One needs to keep going forward and to just believe in yourself until you reach your goal.

Sho!Mag: What would say is your biggest achievement to date through your journey in the music industry?

Lady Sakhe: Being part of the South African Music Conference for 2 years running and being able to play on some of the biggest stages with the some of the house music legends and still hold it down.

Sho!Mag: What has been the one advice you received from someone about the music industry and how has that advice impacted you within this industry?

Lady Sakhe: ‘Don’t give up, eventually the wheel will turn’. This has made me take opportunities whether big or small. I never thought I’d be where I am 5 years ago.

Sho!Mag: We all have a vision about ourselves. Where does Lady Sakhe see herself within the music let’s say in the next five year?

Lady Sakhe: Being the biggest Dj in house music and giving a platform to those who come after me is ultimate goal. Because, I feel that the house music genre can only grow and blossom once we start to nourishing young talent out there.

Sho!Mag: Who would you like to work with in the future and why?

Lady Sakhe: I would like to work with Sheree Hicks, Patty Label ,Wanda Baloyi to name a few and put out a super hot soulful house album.

Sho!Mag: To wrap it all up Lady Sakhe, what would be your message to all the ladies out there who would love to follow a career within the music industry?

Lady Sakhe: Make sure you doing this for the right reasons. This is not easy at all be prepared to work hard.
