Blackchild born Asanda Matiwane, is a radio presenter, DJ, Voiceover Artist, Creative, entrepreneur and fashion student with her very own fashion and beauty company, House Of Azuri. Blackchild was born in the Eastern Cape. Her love for fashion and music knowledge was influenced by her mother who was a collector of music vinyls and that is where her love for music came about.
Blackchild came into the music and entertainment industry in 2014; she started as a radio dj on on-campus radiostation, Radio DUT as a Drive Show standby presenter and her very own weekend show. Thereafter, in 2016 joined community radio station, Durban Youth Radio (DYR 105.1). She did various shows, The Weekend Experience 3-6pm, Top 30 Countdown and weekdays the 9 2 12 Show (9am – 12pm). Blackchild is currently presenting a dance house music show, The Vibe every Friday 6-9pm at Emalahleni Fm in Witbank, Mpumalanga. Blackchild is also former Social Media Manager for Bahaisane Movement, and business woman amongst other positions.
Having aspired to be a DJ, Blackchild was mentored by Bhashkar and her passion of being a DJ landed her multiple wins on the famous Gagasi FM DJ Knockout Show with King Sfiso, as well as on The Dj Battle on Jozi Fm. Blackchild is currently resident Dj at News Café Rosebank.
Blackchild’s career highlights include – Finalist at the #GoBold Hunters Extreme Dj competition, Winner of the Gagasi FM DJ battle 6 consecutive weeks, Winner of the Jozi FM Dj battle 7 consecutive weeks, Resident Dj and Promoter of #ThrowbackThursdays at News Café Rosebank and has played at these venues – Velvet Lounge, Durban, The Immigrant, Johannesburg, Eyadini Lounge, Umlazi Durban, Cantare, Johannesburg, Skyline, Johannesburg, News Café, Rosebank, News Café, Hatfield Pretoria, Harem Johannesburg.
Blackchild has BLACKCHILD merchandise that is available online that has received amazing support. She also owner of Blackchild Events and Supplies which hosts picnic setups and small events in and around Johannesburg, South Africa.
