Punk Mbedzi Biography

Punk Mbedzi, exceptionally talented adaptable, and experimental House/Indie – Dance /Electronic & Afro beats DJ and producer, creating & performing the very best of mellow as well as upbeat afrocentric sounds.

Music is often described as a composition of arpeggios, beats & acoustics etc. combined together to induce a sound that evokes a state of ecstasy,moves your body rhythmically and feeds one’s soul -for Punk it’s just that ,but even more so a way of living, music is his staple diet.

Punk born and raised in the province of Limpopo, city – Polokwane, South Africa on the 5th of February 1993 -began producing phenomenal compositions at the tender age of 16, releasing his first solo project “The Roots Are Calling ” EP (2010), which led to him meeting up with now, close -friend, producer Da Capo. Who encouraged and motivated him to cultivate his craft even more.

Upon teaming up with Da Capo and DJ Swizz, the infamous and highly influential “Surreal Sounds trio” introduced their own movement, sprouting the birth of record label,Surreal Sounds. With an impeccable backing from record label Soul Candi,in 2013 Punk co -produced and released Surreal Sounds’ first album, “Surreal Selections Vol.1”. In 2014 the trio decided to split up to pursue separate and solo career paths,but remain good friends, & are often still associated with one another.

Year 2014, was also the year that Punk released one of his most successful projects – “Deja vu” which was number 1 on one of South Africa’s biggest and most accredited radio stations, YFM on the Hot99 Dance Show chart, hosted by Just Mo.

Punk’s different and melodious sound continues growing from strength to strength. Evidential of this, is him having drawn attention from acts such as Boddhi Satva, Nick Holder, N’Dinga Gaba, Djeff & Silyvi, DJ Zinhle, Magic Soul, Lemon & Herb, as well as having worked on projects for the likes of world-renowned record labels ; Soul Candi, House Afrika , DNH, Offering Records, Nulu Music & Peng Africa.
