YFM’s weekday shows, Y Mornings, Krunch with Khutso, The Shakedown, The Best Drive and Anathi’s Nights on Y will dedicate one hour to local music every day for one week, every month. YTKO shows on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays will be dedicated to South African music. Gauteng’s biggest youth station will continue to highlight South African music, as it has done in the past, often providing a launch pad for local musicians and their careers.
By showing 100% support for local music, artists can enjoy the benefits of their hard work by receiving their royalties for music played on the station and as well as driving listeners to streaming platforms where they can purchase and consume the artists’ music. In this way, YFM continues to be seen as a conduit for supporting the South Africa music and entertainment industry.
YFM expresses its concern over the plight of the livelihoods of many artists as an effect of Covid–19 leaving musicians without an income earned from live shows and other avenues. Supporting the county’s local music is important, YFM provides a ‘mic’ for South Africa’s unique culture, creative flair, and sound that is developed on the African continent.
