ShoMag: On ‘House Music Production’, do you feel that there is enough female representation when it comes to ‘music production’ and if not, in your opinion what needs to be done to promote female representation?
Dj Thotho: Obviously there isn’t. We all know this is a male dominated industry especially when it comes to music production. I feel we as female artists are lazy when it comes to music production because if we were not we would be trying by all means to get our fingers on the keys, but we are not. ‘Resources are there but we don’t want to use them’.
ShoMag: You have played in a number of venues and we have ‘danced to your tunes’. Which venue stands out for you the most and why?
Dj Thotho: Hahaha, yho that’s a tough one but I’d say ‘Lu’s Corner Shisanyama’ in Cato Manor, Durban, South Africa. The crowd there is always on their feet responding to your music. I always feel welcomed when I’m there. ‘They have an amazing audience’.
ShoMag: Recently you have dropped your latest single ‘Moya Wam’ with ‘Fey’. What was the inspiration behind ‘Moya Wam’ and what type of sound can we expect from that offering?
Dj Thotho: ‘Moya Wam’ is a modern gospel song, anyone can relate to it. ‘Fey’ is the one who wrote the whole song. ‘We just thought about how blessed we are at the moment and blessed as we are it can’t be anyone but God’s blessings’. So the song is all about praising him of all the things he has done for us.
ShoMag: Looking back at your ‘musical journey’, what would you list as your ‘biggest breakthrough’ thus far?
Dj Thotho: I’d say releasing my own music of course which was playlisted on different radio stations and playing live for a full hour on the Dj Mix. These really helped my brand.
ShoMag: What can we look forward to from ‘Dj Thotho’ this year, are there any musical projects or tours you are currently working on for the rest of the year?
Dj Thotho: Before the year ends I’m planning on releasing my fourth single which is under planning as we speak. ‘So people can expect more good music’.
ShoMag: Any last words from ‘Dj Thotho’ and what would your message be to your fans out there?
Dj Thotho: Uhm, hahaha I’m not really good with words but thank you so much for this opportunity and thank you to everyone who has been supporting Dj Thotho since day one. ‘I’m still here to stay and ksazobamandi (It’s still going to be nice)’.
