Born on the 27th of July 1989 in Tembisa, Johannesburg, South Africa. Nompumelelo Buthelezi matriculated at Dlangezwa High School, a boarding school in Kwa-Zulu Natal and later enrolled at the University of Johannesburg for a course in Ceramic design and Events Management. She was then introduced to the DJ society on the University campus, where she learned the basics of mixing and playing house music, which allowed her to embark on a career in the media industry in the year 2010.
A promising young talent and South Africa’s female house deejay who is loved by many for her unique ear in music and vibrant personality. Nompumelelo’s interest in the entertainment industry derives from her ability to relate to different people in a musical and interactive manner and expressing herself through her music. Her passion for music has allowed her to learn more about the music culture and the diverse audiences in South Africa.
In 2010, Nompumelelo became known as Dj Thabi Thabs, the female house deejay. She mixed and played in the house genre for two years until her first big break. She was part of an event called One Night Stand where she went head on, competing with and playing alongside Dj Zinhle, South Africa’s leading female deejay.
The event gave her exposure and in the process, she discovered an interest in fashion which escalated into her very own clothing brand named Net Sooo. In 2012, Dj Thabi Thabs entered the Gauteng Carnival Deejay Competition and she was the only female chosen under the top 10 where she took the 7th position. Dj Thabi Thabs expanded her brand by co-ordinating a New Year’s Eve event which has become an annual occasion where local deejays showcase their talent whilst people celebrate right into the new year.
