ShoMag: You were one of the ‘top 36 finalists’ in SABC 1 Show ‘1s and 2s’ back in 2014. How was the experience for you within that particular show?

SoulPoizen: Short-lived! It was crazy to be the only one from KZN and I was selected from the online auditions. ‘Great experience and an eye opener though’, if I had the time I would definitely give it another go.

ShoMag: It has been a while since your banging album release ‘Nature Frequencies’. How did the public receive that offering and are there any plans of a ‘follow-up album’ on the pipeline this year?

SoulPoizen: The project was received quite well, ‘I was amazed how it turned it out’ seeing as we did not have the means to market it across the country. I’ve thought about another album, ‘I just feel I need to grow more’ and I want it to happen organically so I put out something that will stay on for decades.

ShoMag: What was the ‘best advice about the music industry’ you were ever given and how has it helped through your music career?

SoulPoizen: ‘To stay true to who you are’! It’s definitely helped me, also gave me the confidence to setup my own label just so I can be in a more flexible space.

ShoMag: ‘Collaborations are key’ within the music industry in so many ways. Are there any particular musicians you would like to work with in future and why the desire to work with them?

SoulPoizen: On the top of my head, I would love a collab between myself and ‘Enoo Napa’. It’s been amazing seeing the brother ‘transform the Afro scene and bring in a new energy and sound altogether’.

ShoMag: Any musical projects ‘SoulPoizen’ currently working on and what can we expect from you this year?

SoulPoizen: ‘Currently working on an EP’ which will drop in Spring this year and I have other collaborations in progress.

ShoMag: Last words from you to your fans out there. Any message you might have for them?

SoulPoizen: I’m in awe of the support I receive till this day, and for that ‘Thank you to everyone who supports my music and label’. Hoping more and more supporters of our music will opt to get our work through the correct channels. Bless!
